Free baggage allowance for guests with disabilities

Wheelchairs and mobility aids

Guests who use wheelchairs or crutches may transport these mobility aids free of charge.

Wheelchairs and crutches are normally checked and carried in the aircraft hold. They must be handed over before boarding and will be returned upon arrival according to airport procedures.

Medical equipment

Saudia accepts up to two pieces of mobility equipment per guest with a disability or reduced mobility, including electric wheelchairs, in addition to the standard free checked baggage allowance.

Dialysis devices

Guests who rely on a portable dialysis device may carry one device free of charge.

The device must be checked and placed in the aircraft hold in line with safety and handling procedures.

Guide dogs

Guide dogs may accompany blind or deaf guests. They may be transported in the aircraft hold, provided they are in an appropriate kennel or cage in line with animal transport regulations.

Guide dogs are not permitted in the cabin on Saudia flights.

Infant strollers

Infant strollers may be checked in free of charge in line with Saudia’s baggage policy and will be carried in the aircraft hold.

Sports equipment and musical instruments

Saudia accepts sports equipment and musical instruments as checked baggage if they are properly packed or placed in suitable protective bags or cases, and if airport facilities allow handling of such items.

The weight of these items is counted as part of the guest’s free checked baggage allowance. If the weight and/or dimensions exceed the standard free allowance, excess baggage charges will apply in line with Saudia’s baggage policy.

Medical oxygen services

In line with international regulations and the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACAR 91.225), guests with special medical needs may use an approved Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) during the flight. The following conditions apply to the acceptance and use of POC devices in the guest cabin on Saudia flights.

Medical information form for using a portable oxygen concentrator (PDF)

  • The device must comply with Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) requirements or display an approved safety mark for onboard use. Guests must provide supporting documents when requested.
  • The guest must be able to hear alarms, see indicator lights, and respond to warnings, or travel with someone who can perform these actions on their behalf.
  • The portable oxygen concentrator (POC) must be clean and free from oil, grease, or petroleum products, and in good condition with no visible damage.
  • The device must not interfere with the aircraft’s electrical, navigation, or communication systems during taxi, take-off, cruise, or landing.
  • The POC must be stowed securely under the seat in front of the guest or in an approved storage area. It must not block aisles, pathways, or emergency exits.
  • Only oxygen-approved creams, lotions, and salves may be used by guests using a POC.
  • Guests must send the Physician’s Statement (POC report) to meda@saudia.com at least 48 hours before departure. They must also check in no later than 3 hours before the flight with the device, batteries, and original medical report.
  • Guests should confirm the total flight duration with Saudia offices or the reservations call center to ensure they carry enough fully charged batteries for the entire journey.
  • Batteries for approved devices must be carried in hand baggage and protected from physical damage.
  • A maximum of two spare batteries is permitted in carry-on baggage.
  • Batteries must be protected against short circuits—for example, by covering terminals or packing each battery separately.
  • Guests must carry enough batteries to cover the full flight time plus at least 150% additional capacity. For example: a 10-hour flight requires batteries charged for at least 15 hours.
  • If the oxygen device is checked in, all batteries must be removed and carried in the guest’s hand baggage inside the cabin.

Note: Please avoid placing valuables or important documents in baggage checked into the aircraft hold.
