Flights to Khartoum to enjoy the bustling Sudanese capital

Welcome to Khartoum, the huge, modern capital of Sudan, comprising three distinct centres – Khartoum, Bahri and Omdurman. After travelling here in comfort with SAUDIA benefit from the tripartite metropolis’s multiple styles and attractions. Khartoum is the home of the Sudanese government and the largest of the three areas. Omdurman boasts a traditional middle eastern atmosphere and maze-like streets. Bahri, by contrast, offers you the true beating heart of the modern city, containing both residential and industrial zones. Regardless which metropolis you like best, be sure to visit Al-Mogran, the confluence of the White Nile, which flows north from Lake Victoria, and the Blue Nile, which flows west from neighbouring Ethiopia. Then visit the prettiest road in Khartoum, Nile Street, bordered by the Blue Nile on one side and lined with lovely colonial buildings on the other, including the Grand Holiday Villa Khartoum Hotel and the Presidential Palace. Within the grounds of the palace you can visit the Sudan Presidential Palace Museum, as well as watch the changing of the guard if you are lucky enough to arrive on the first Friday of the month.

Travel in tranquillity from Jeddah to Khartoum

No trip to Khartoum would be complete without a visit to the city’s traditional shopping centres. Start at Souq Arabi, the commercial heart of Khartoum, located just south of the Great Mosque. Packed with crowds you can buy everything you ever need here – and more. In nearby Omdurman is Souq Omdurman, one of the largest markets in Africa, and boasting a handicraft market in a covered gated lane, hidden between two buildings. Finally, stop in Saad Gishra, in Bahri, where you can find the best deals in town. If all the shopping leaves you hungry, stop for a bit to eat at the Opera Restaurant on Nile Street, where you can sample a variety of international cuisines in comfort. Or take a break from roaming the city to watch the Friday afternoon spectacle of Nuba Wrestling, and root for your favourite of two teams.
